We measure before we open anything
Oil analysis, vibration signature and cylinder pressures cost a day and routinely show the overhaul is not due. Stripping first and measuring afterwards is how a good engine becomes an expensive one.
Propulsion engineering in Gosport · attending across the south coast and the Med
A vibration at nineteen knots is not an engine problem or a shaft problem or a propeller problem. It is one problem, and it gets solved by the people who are willing to measure all three rather than replace the cheapest.
What we do
Nothing matches that search. to see everything.
How we work
Oil analysis, vibration signature and cylinder pressures cost a day and routinely show the overhaul is not due. Stripping first and measuring afterwards is how a good engine becomes an expensive one.
Engine, mounts, gearbox, shaft, bearings and propeller. Replace a propeller to cure a vibration that came from a soft mount and you will buy a second propeller.
Alignment done cold on the hard is a starting point, not an answer. We come back when she is in the water and at temperature, which is the condition she actually runs in.
The job is not finished when the tools are packed. It is finished when the vessel has been through the speed range with instruments on and the numbers are in the report.
“Twelve years of a vibration everybody blamed on the propellers, and two sets of new ones to prove it. These put accelerometers on it, found a soft engine mount and a bearing out of line, and fixed it in a week. It has been smooth since.”
